George Lopez To Host Playboy Jazz Festival

When the Playboy Jazz Festival will return to the Hollywood Bowl June 15-16, will welcome a new emcee George Lopez.


Joining the Grammy-nominated comedian and actor, is a lineup that includes Grammy newly minted Robert Glasper Experiment , recently Grammy nominated Gregory Porter, India.Arie, Sheila E. , Trombone Shorty,

Bob James / David Sanborn, George Duke with Jeffrey Osborne, Angelique Kidjo with Hugh Masekela and the Taj Mahal. The new line of host and performer was unveiled during a press conference at the Playboy Mansion on Thursday afternoon (February 28).

The two-day festival, which marks its 35th anniversary, currently three worlds premieres also. These include Naturally 7 with special guest Herbie Hancock; birthday greetings 80th Quincy Jones Orchestra Clayton -

Hamilton Jazz with special guest Patti Austin and Hubert Laws; and jazz pianist Elew, as India.Arie and Mahal, is making his first appearance at the festival. In addition, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet will perform a special tribute to the late Dave Brubeck.

López inherited emcee duties Bill Cosby, who led the festival for more than 30 years ago. Described as the “perfect choice “to host Playboy Jazz Festival by Chairman Emeritus Richard Rosenzweig, Lopez considered a more” tremendous honor “to get the call from Cosby to be master of ceremonies.

He also noted that Cosby was giving him advice as “not let the musicians in his dressing room because all the food they eat.”

Lopez later told Billboard that he is a fan of jazz lifetime. “To attend the show in this capacity is beyond anything I could have imagined.” A guitar enthusiast also said he had “love to play a song," an act for the show. “That’s my goal.”

Along with Lopez, Rosenzweig and festival producer Darlene Chan at the press conference were Jones, Hancock, Poncho Sanchez, Hubert Laws, Jeffrey Osborne and Sheila E.
