Pedrito Martinez Group Featuring Ariacne Trujillo To perform Afro-Cuban Jazz Sounds At Miller Outdoor Theatre May 3

The Pedrito Martinez Group Ariacne Trujillo will take the stage at Miller Outdoor Theatre for the FREE concert on Saturday, May 3, at sunset, presented by the Society for the Performing Arts.



Cuban percussionist Pedrito Martinez Pedrito Martinez Group and based in New York, has its roots planted firmly in the Afro-Cuban tradition rumba and bata rhythms and vocal chants of sacred music known as Santeria and Yoruba .

The boldly inventive Martinez has become increasingly present in the music scene in New York and he will bring the powerful punch of its programs Midtown Manhattan to Houston for one night only.

Since forming his current band in 2008, the band has become an unusually close and a creative unit based operations Guantanamera concert in Hell's Kitchen - and has a fan base that includes Steve Gadd, Ravi Coltrane, Taj Mahal, Eric Clapton, John Scofield, Roger Waters, Derek trucks and Herlin Riley, among others.

Besides Martínez band includes percussionist Jhair room, Lima, Peru; electric bassist Alvaro Benavides, from Caracas, Venezuela; and keyboardist / vocalist Araicne Trujillo, from Havana, Cuba.

Born in Havana in 1973, Pedro Pablo “Pedrito “Martinez began his musical career at the age of 11 years, acting as vocalist and percussionist with Cuban legends such as Tata Guines and Muñequitos de Matanzas.

When she was 15, bandleader Jane Bunnett Toronto hired him for a tour of North America with his band, Spirits of Havana; two years later, he won the first time in the Afro-Latin Hand Drum Contest Thelonious Monk Institute.

Since 2000 , Martinez has played on over 100 albums, including projects led by Paquito D ' Rivera, Issac Delgado, Eliane Elias , Stefon Harris, Steve Turre, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Conrad Herwig and Brian Lynch and Grammy Award Eddie Palmieri Sympathetic winning CD . 

He was also a member of the band Afro-Cuban/Afro-Beat great success, Yerba Buena with which he recorded two albums and toured the world opening for bands like the Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson and Ray Charles .

Produced by Steve Gadd and Pedrito Martinez, the first studio album from the group, The Martinez Pedrito Group, published on October 8, 2013, on Motema Music and features special guests, Wynton Marsalis, John Scofield, Steve Gadd, Marc Quiñones and Gary Schreiner.

The Pedrito Martinez Group has appeared at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theater , the Newport Jazz Festival , Globalfest , New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, TED and TEDx Conference , the Montreal Jazz Festival , the Festival of the Red Sea , Montreux Jazz Festival ,

Born in Havana, Ariacne Trujillo began his career as a concert pianist as a child prodigy. Blessed with perfect pitch, she was able to graduate with honors from the hyper - competitive ISA conservatory Cuba while working as a singer and dancer at the legendary Cabaret Tropicana.

Since his arrival in the city of New York in 2002 , has acted Ariacne or recorded with Paul Simon , Paquito D ' Rivera , Johnny Pacheco , Oscar de Leon, Luis Enrique , Isaac Delgado and Savion Glover.

The range of expression in playing and singing of Ariacne covers classical , afro cuban , opera , ballet, blues , jazz, R & B , soul and funk.
